Kenya: Sh1 Billion Project to Increase Water Supply in Eldoret - kenyadetails

The World Bank is to spent more than Sh1 billion to expand water supply programmes in Eldoret and its environs.

Eldoret Mayor William Rono says the Chebara Water Dam in Marakwet which supplies water to the town will be expanded through the World Bank funded initiative.

“Eldoret is a major investment herb and we want to put in place adequate water supply so that residents and investors feel comfortable”, he said

He said the council is already working with the World Bank, Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company and other donors to also help in upgrading slum dwellings in the town saying the plan is to improve infrastructure, housing and health facilities for all our residents.

The civic body is working with the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) on the new initiatives in the waters sector for the town.

He was speaking yesterday when he commissioned a computer training college at Kapsaos ward, Uasin Gishu which will train more than 800 youth in modern computer technology.

He said that apart from water projects, the council has only embarked on construction of a Sh75million market mean to address the issue of hawking in Eldoret.

“We want to de-congest the town centre so that we create a conducive environment for investors to operate,” he said.

Rono, who is also vying for the Turbo constituency parliamentary seat on a URP ticket said residents of the region should come out in large numbers and register as voters before next week.

He asked residents to embrace peace and reconciliation as the country heads to the general election saying the county was among the most affected during the post election violence and a repeat should be avoided at all costs. “Do away with leaders who preach ethnicity and elect those who encourage tolerance,” he said.
