Meridian Medical Seeks Sh800 Million From NHIF Deal - kenyadetails

Meridian Medical Centre has sued the National Health Insurance Fund to be compensated with more than Sh800 million for breach of contract.

The facility which was mentioned in the recent NHIF scandal has said the parastatal terminated its contract without issuance of

three-month notice as required.

In the suit papers filed in the court, Meridian says it suffered loss of credibility which was occasioned by a number of articles published in the media during the termination of the contract.

The hospital says, it did not only lose business but its brand was damaged as well. Late last year, NHIF came under fire over its ambitious Sh4.2 billion healthcare scheme for civil servants. The parastatal was accused of giving contracts to hospitals which did not have outlets or clinics in many areas in the country.

It was alleged that Meridian Medical Centres and Hospitals received Sh116 million between January and March, for 19 outlets, but some of them were non-existent. The hospital was to offer outpatient medical cover for civil servants.

Meridian was awarded Sh30 million under the scheme, while Clinix Healthcare received Sh202 million compared to Kenyatta National Hospital that received only Sh1 million. And now the hospital wants compensation for loss of business.
