Chinese firm plans solar energy project in Kenya - kenyadetails

China-based Dongfang Electric International Corp. will establish a solar power company in Kenya. The company will develop 50 MW of power grid-tied solar energy capacity in Kenya's Nakuru County, which is northwest of the capital city of Nairobi.
Construction should be completed within

three years, pending the approval of environmental impact studies and similar licenses. Project partners hope for approvals to be finalized by early 2014.

To get started, project developers also need to buy some 100 acres in an area favorable for development.
Kenya currently has a capacity of about 1.6 GW. The country's government plans to invest in the development of thermal, geothermal and renewable generation to expand that capacity to 3,000 MW by 2015.
