Cameroon to benefit from construction of a multi-functional laboratory complex

The Republic of Cameroon, a country on the Gulf of Guinea in the central region of Africa is set to benefit from the construction of a multifunctional laboratory complex dedicated to the analysis and control of the quality of food, pharmaceutical, textile, electronic, chemical and construction products.

 

The project is being carried out by Mediline Medical Cameroon, a subsidiary of South Korean firm Mediline Korea on an approximately 2 hectares piece of land in the locality of Missolé I, the Department of Sanaga-Maritime in the coastal region of Littoral.

 

The construction of a multifunctional laboratory complex is expected to be complete by the end of this year according to Sung Uk Yoon the project coordinator.

UN to help boost Kenya’s pharmaceutical industry

The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) says it will help Kenya’s pharmaceutical industry reach international standards in order to reduce the cost of medicines.

Unido Consultant Wilberforce Wanyanga says the organisation plans to assist 34 pharmaceutical manufacturers meet World Health Organisation (WHO) pre-qualification standards in the next four years. “The aim is to make Kenyan medicines access the African continental market,” Mr Wanyanga said during the WTO side event on the role of patents in the pharmaceutical industry. So far, only one Kenyan manufacturing firm has met WHO standards.

Drugs firm injects Ksh1bn in 4 new medicines

Laboratory & Allied has launched new medicines in the East African market to help alleviate various conditions. The pharmaceutical company has invested Kshs1 billion towards the development and launch of the four new medicines as the company celebrates 45 years since inception.

Laboratory & Allied CEO Suprakash Mandal said the four medicines have also been laucnhed in Tanzania and Ethiopia. “Out of these, 30% has been directed towards increasing production capacity, an additional 30% towards packaging and 40% towards registration of the products in the respective countries,” said Mr Mandal.
