KZN to get first private medical university

Kenya: Nzoia Officer to Upgrade Hospitals
TRANS Nzoia chief health officer Maurice Wakwabubi has said he will help to equip subdistrict hospitals in the county. He said if the hospitals are well-equipped Kitale District Hospital will be decongested.
"Some 49 per cent of patients admitted at the Kitale District Hospital suffer from malaria. If we strengthen our sub district hospitals, then the district hospital will be used for other serious diseases and operations," Wakwabubi said.
Speaking in Kitale yesterday, Wakwabubi said he will help turn the district hospital into a county referral hospital. The Trans Nzoia county government has allocated Sh40 million for the equipping, reconstruction and automation of various subdistrict hospitals in the county.
Msambweni Hospital Gets New Machine
THE Kwale government has handed over an Anesthetic machine to the ministry of health to help in handling patients waiting for operation in Msambweni Referral Hospital.
Water executive Athman Chiguzo said that the new machine cost Sh1.9 million. Speaking to the Star on the phone on Sunday Chigudzo said the buying of the machine is among other plans set by the government to ensure residents get quality health services.
He said the machine was used in the hospital for three weeks before its official launch on Friday. "The machine is good and will complement another machine in the hospital. The hospital had one machine but we have two now although the new one is sophisticated than the other one," he said.
Chigudzo said the machine can work for nine hours without power, which will ensure services are not interrupted in case of black out.
Pharma machinery firms expect brisk sales to SMEs
With Gujarat's small and mid-sized drug companies eyeing rapid export growth, pharma machinery makers in the state are expecting a surge in demand this year. Orders from SMEs have increased in the last couple of years, and now constitute nearly 30-35 per cent of the total order book. The share is rapidly increasing because companies need state-of-the-art machinery in order to ensure regulatory compliance.
Gujarat-based machinery manufacturers almost unanimously point out that they expect robust growth this year, as orders from SMEs are likely to increase by at least 25-30 per cent. Bharat Panchal, owner of Brinda Pharma Technologies, which runs a plant near Odhav in Ahmedabad, pointed out, "Orders from smaller pharma companies have already started pouring in. Earlier, we were supplying to big pharma companies like Zydus Cadila, Intas Pharma, Amneal, Glenmark, Panacea Biotech, Lupin and Cipla. Now we are also getting orders from smaller firms."
Smaller pharma manufacturing units usually use older, semi-automatic machinery.
