China (Zhongshan) International Games & Amusement Fair 2015(G & A 2015)

Since July 11, 2014, Guangdong Game & Amusement Culture Industry City has been under Construction in Gangkou, Zhongshan. Planning area: 416 acres; planning investment: 2.6 billion yuan; construction area: 800,000 square meters, and is divided into four phases. The construction area of first phase is 165,000 square meters.

Currently, 80% of construction for the first phase (District A ) is completed. Green planting area in District A will be completed by June 10 and it is expected to be opened in October this year. It’s estimated that District A will be finished before the 2015 Spring Festival.

KenGen strikes 375MW from new geothermal wells

Electricity generating company KenGen is set to boost its geothermal output following the discovery of steam wells that can generate up to 375 megawatts at its Olkaria fields.

The wells will be used to develop three power plants with total capacity of 350MW.

KenGen said it would continue to drill wells to supply steam for an additional 70MW unit at the recently commissioned Olkaria I unit four and five plants.

“The available steam is 374.7MW. This is for Olkaria 1 Unit 6, a single unit of 70MW to be constructed at Olkaria 1. Available steam for this plant is 84MW,” said KenGen’s director for geothermal development, Abel Rotich.

Kuguru to set up Sh2bn sanitary towels plant in Nairobi

Businessman Peter Kuguru has ventured into the sanitary pads business, with plans to set up a Sh2 billion manufacturing plant in Nairobi.

Mr Kuguru, who is better known for his Softa beverages company, says he has diversified into the new business line to tap growing demand for the towels.

He has registered a subsidiary, Sanitary Pads and Diapers International, which is jointly owned with a group of foreign investors.

The businessman is currently importing the All Whites sanitary pads from China, having won the franchise to sell the towels locally.

Ethiopia Signs a Deal for Construction of a High-Voltage Transmission Line to Kenya

Ethiopia signed a US$20 million-agreement with China Electric Power Equipment and Technology for the construction of a high-voltage transmission line connecting with Kenya as part of plans to boost regional power exports.

The 433-km project will stretch from Wolaita in southern Ethiopia to the border, making half of a planned 1,045 km link with Kenya. It was signed on Friday (June 19) Ethiopian Electric Power's Chief Executive Azeb Asnake and the CEPET's vice-president Chen Wei.
